Friday Afternoon Gardening

Per Ms. Sheila- the pecan trees are blooming and that can only mean one thing... we won't be freezing again until fall...if ever. heh. With that go-ahead, I've been getting all of the plants which survived the winter with me situated outside, repotted if necessary, you know- the works. & this is by far the quickest means of taking notes... I have VERY green thumbs when it comes to growing Arrowhead Vines (Synogonium) . I currently have a regular type growing in a hanging planter, a very happy 'Pink Allusion' variety overgrowing its modest container, and two cuttings rooted in water- one several times the size of the other. Since the hanging basket is comparatively sparse, I plan to add the rooted cuttings to it as a way to fill out the space.  When fall of 2017 was fast approaching, I took a cutting from the Coleus I had grown from a leaf cutting the Spring prior. I had it rooting in water since then. I trimmed off the lowermost leaves and planted in a fairly s...

Miracle on Starter Tray #2...?

Literally not quite sure how this is feasibly happening buuuutttttt.... [I'll take the wins where I can get 'em. Heh] Seed Starter Tray #2 was the tray that became the virtual battleground, the boxing ring...the fucking octagon I suppose...in my 2019 war with my gardening arch nemesis. It was while I was sowing my seeds into that tray #2 that I spotted they who shall not be named. As is the only smart course of action as common sense has it, I ceased my sowing operation in that soil and made my best effort to remove the seeds I had already placed so as to conserve my supply and commenced OPERATION: ERASE THE GNAT 2K19 (2.0) by unleashed a blitzkrieg of fungicides and pinterest trending DIY insecticides. You know...those state-of-the-art weapons I have in my arsenal. Naturally, I abandoned this tray on the porch in hopes that our recent bone-chilling freeze would off the bastards and it looked like I succeeded every time I happened to glance at it whilst taking Spectre out to...

If it wasn't for bad luck....

I wouldn't have no luck at all... Remember when I said that spring was over and summer was upon us... well the Louisiana asylum-caliber crazy climate survey says that was a damn  lie. There are very very  few instances in my life when I can say this but, " Thank freaking god for narcolepsy!" I had been proverbially kicking myself for literally sleeping on starting the last half of my indoor germ seeds sowing, not to mention the direct outdoor sows until like 3 days ago when a storm front rolled through and turned back the clock and thermostat and sent us straight back into the throes of winter. As winter as we ever get...it literally froze night before last. SO I thank my faulty brain for allowing me to sleep through what would have been an immensely frustrating mistake of a headache. In fact, I was talking to C about my forthcoming gardening to knock out and mentioned how many gardening enthusiasts in our area must have been tearing their hair out in disbelief. I mea...
